Orange unveils 42Mbps DC-HSPA+ network in Nairobi

Telkom Kenya (Orange) has announced that it has initiated DC-HSPA+ services in Nairobi, providing end-users with download speeds of up to 42Mbps. The announcement comes almost a year after the company inaugurated its long-awaited 3G network in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu. At the time the KES4 billion (USD42.6 million) deployment was described by CEO Mickael Ghossein as Kenya’s ‘best-in-class network’. This week Ghossein said that the company was ‘scaling up of our network is part of our aggressive campaign of capturing the data market share, as we strive to maintain our strategy of being the best in data in Kenya. Already we have [extended] 3G into Malindi and are looking into opening up the same in Eldoret and Nakuru’. The launch has also paved way for the introduction of a new 42Mbps ‘Orange Internet Everywhere’ modem, priced at KES9,999.
