Canadian rural broadband provider Xplornet has reported the successful launch of the EchoStar XVII satellite, the second orbiter to be launched this year on which the wireless ISP has purchased 100% of the Canadian capacity. The additional capacity will come on line in the fourth quarter for Xplornet to augment its ‘4G’ satellite/WiMAX broadband services, in particular expanding its high speed footprint across British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. The next-generation satellite, launched from French Guiana, is capable of providing internet access to rural and remote subscribers with download speeds up to 25Mbps.
