Telefonica launches LTE in Nuremberg, Dresden

Telefonica Germany (O2), the local subsidiary of Spanish telecoms group Telefonica, has announced the commercial launch of its urban Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile broadband network. Coverage of the 4G network, which supports maximum download speeds of up to 50Mbps, is initially available in Nuremberg and Dresden, but will be expanded to Munich and Leipzig shortly. By the end of the year Telefonica aims to have increased availability of it LTE network to a total of 200 towns and cities. At launch, the company is offering the HTC ONE XL and LG Optimus True HD LTE smartphones, as well as the O2 LTE 4G surfstick from ZTE and the Asus Transformer 300 tablet.
