Azerbaijan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, Azercell, has announced the launch of its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, with commercial mobile broadband services to be made available next month. The TeliaSonera subsidiary’s 4G network, which operates in the 1800MHz frequency band, will initially cover the downtown area of the capital Baku, including the Seaside National Park. Azercell says that the network will be able to support maximum download speeds of 100Mbps. 4G modems will go on sale on 18 June and customers will be able to subscribe to Azercell’s ‘UNLIMITED Mobile Internet’ pack, which costs AZN45 (USD57) per month and can also be used on the operator’s 3G network.
