Back to the drawing board? No companies interested in Conatel’s fibre-optic tender

No offers were forthcoming in Consejo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones’ (Conatel’s) recent tender for a contract to deploy fibre-optic infrastructure across Paraguay, a source at the watchdog has confirmed to BNamericas. As a result, Conatel’s board is prepared to may make a number of changes to the bidding conditions before initiating a new tender. The contract, which is going to be co-funded by a universal service fund (USF) subsidy worth USD2.2 million, reportedly covers the deployment of a 450km fibre-optic network, as well as the provision of telecoms equipment in at least 60 municipalities.
