DoCoMo sees Q4 profits jump 49%

Japan’s dominant cellular operator NTT DoCoMo has posted a 49% rise in net profit for its fourth quarter to end-March 2012 to reach JPY69.3 billion (USD865.2 million). Sales for the quarter improved slightly from JPY1.02 trillion to JPY1.07 trillion, with operating profits up 51.5% at JPY130.7 billion. For the full 2011 fiscal year, revenues reached JPY4.24 trillion, up 0.4% year-on-year, while operating profit was up 3.5% at JPY874.5 billion. Net income for the full year fell 5.4% to JPY463.9 billion, however, due to the effects of a tax reform introduced on 30 November 2011. DoCoMo claimed more than 60 million subscribers and a 47% share of the overall Japanese mobile market at the end of March 2012.
