Armenian internet subscriber base topped 1.8m last year

According to Vahe Danielyan, an adviser to Armenia’s minister of the economy, the total number of fixed and mobile internet subscribers in the country reached 1.8 million at the end of December 2011, equivalent to a population penetration of 56%. In a news conference delivered yesterday, Danielyan said that the number of fixed and mobile broadband subscriptions stood at 380,000 at the same date, of which 320,000 are residential users. The official went on to note that some 1.4 million Armenians access the internet via a mobile device and that the total for other wireless internet users is currently being tallied.
