NT picks Airspan Networks for nationwide 4G deployment project

23 Feb 2012

State owned operator Nepal Doorsanchar Company Limited (Nepal Telecom, or NT) has selected broadband wireless access networks provider Airspan Networks for a countrywide rollout of 4G equipment to provide high speed data services to residential and business users throughout the mountain Kingdom. The vendor says it will incorporate its high-power, outdoor macro base station, dubbed Air4G, in NT’s network through the contract; the operator plans to offer wireless broadband services using part of the 2.3GHz-2.4GHz frequency band assigned to it last year. In a press release, Airspan said that subscribers taking the new service will be equipped with a variety of user devices including outdoor mounted units for longer range, indoor self-install units and USB devices for true mobility. The deployment is scheduled to be completed within 360 days of the contract being signed and upon completion, 58 municipalities and all 3,915 village development committees (VDCs) will be connected.
