KDDI flat-lines in fiscal 1Q, maintains outlook

25 Jul 2011

Japan’s KDDI Corp says its net income for the fiscal first quarter ended 30 June 2011 was broadly unchanged year-on-year at JPY71.95 billion (USD917 million), compared to JPY71.92 billion a year ago, as a strong performance from its fixed line operation counteracted a fall in ARPU at its mobile business. Group operating profit climbed 8.4% year-on-year to JPY140.1 billion, from JPY129.3 billion in the corresponding year-earlier period, as revenue slipped marginally by 0.1% to JPY864.96 billion from JPY866.02 billion previously. KDDI said it also booked a one-off extraordinary loss of JPY3.67 billion, arising from the damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.

The carrier is maintaining its outlook for the full year to 31 March 2012, and forecasts net income of JPY250 billion, down 2% year-on-year, operating profit of JPY475 billion (+0.7%) and revenue of JPY3.46 trillion (+0.7%).
