Airtel Bangladesh, owned by Indian giant Bharti Airtel group, has announced reaching the landmark of five million mobile subscribers this month, up from 4.6 million at the end of March. The GSM operator, which was rebranded under the Airtel brand from its previous name Warid in December 2010, also announced that its total number of towns covered reached more than 2,100 after adding 160 new locations in a recent expansion drive. It added that its number of base stations had reached 2,220, and it is aiming for 72% population coverage by December.
