A1 Telekom Austria has confirmed that it has re-branded its long-running IPTV service aonTV as ‘A1 Kabel TV’, expanding its service to include more regional and foreign-language channels in the process. The re-branding exercise follows the telco’s recent efforts to streamline its domestic service portfolio; in July 2010 Telekom Austria Group consolidated its mobile and fixed line units, Mobilkom and Telekom Austria under the new name A1 Telekom Austria.
The report coincides with news that Telekom has expanded its IPTV service to include a greater focus on foreign-language programming. A1 Kabel TV will provide additional Serbian and Turkish channels – as well as ten new foreign-language stations – with immediate effect. Further, the number of channels in A1 Kabel TV’s basic package has been increased by 20, and now encompasses over 110 TV stations, in addition to 30 premium and ten HD channels. Going forward, A1 Kabel TV’s basic package – which currently comprises 19 foreign-language channels – will be expanded to include 14 new foreign-language broadcasters. Alongside new Serbian and Turkish channels, the service will also introduce Chinese, Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Spanish TV content for the first time.
Claudia Winkler, chief marketing officer at the Telekom Austria Group, commented: ‘With a total of 150 TV channels, we are now offering our customers an unprecedented variety of programmes. Austrian residents with roots abroad are able to have the same level of the latest developments in their home countries with first-hand news in their mother tongue. We have recognised these multicultural needs and we will continue to adjust our international offerings accordingly’.
