Movistar to launch HD IPTV

Movistar will launch a full high definition IPTV service this year, writes TelecomPaper. The firm’s fibre-optic broadband network currently has over 250,000 homes passed, a figure which the operator plans to increase to over 700,000 by 2014. Claudio Munoz, Movistar Chile’s executive president said in an interview that Movistar will initially provide its IPTV service in selected urban areas that are currently covered by its network. According to Munoz, Movistar currently serves around 350,000 satellite pay-TV customers across Chile, giving it a 17% share of the satellite pay-TV market.
