The Sri Lankan mobile market leader by subscribers, Dialog Axiata, has dampened speculation linking it with a bid for fixed wireless operator Suntel. Dialog, which is 83.3% owned by Malaysia’s Axiata, had been rumoured to have conducted preliminary due diligence on Suntel, currently indirectly owned by TeliaSonera with a 37.5% stake. ‘There is nothing happening regarding Suntel at the moment,’ said Dharshana Abeysinghe, a spokesman for Dialog Axiata. Suntel has been on the market for several years, with MTNL, Etisalat and Tata all having been linked with the operator.
