Spanish telecoms operator Telefonica will unify its fixed line and mobile operations in Argentina under the Movistar brand next year, El Cronista reports, citing Telefonica Argentina’s corporate communications director, Ramon Ponce Gil. The rebranding exercise in Argentina will require investment of around USD2 million. Last year Telefonica adopted the Movistar brand across its operations in Spain, Uruguay, Peru and Venezuela, and will also carry out the rebranding exercise in Colombia and Central America. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telefonica had a total of 16.148 million mobile customers in Argentina at the end of 2010, and served 4.621 million fixed telephony and 1.439 million fixed broadband subscribers.
