Dow Jones Newswires reports that Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has increased its stake in Indian telecoms heavyweight Bharti Airtel to 32.25% by buying 2.83 million shares for INR934 million (USD21 million). In a filing to the Singapore Stock Exchange, SingTel said it purchased the shares on the open market via wholly owned unit Viridian Ltd. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, SingTel had an indirect equity interest in Bharti Airtel of 32.15% as of mid-January 2011.
