German cable network operator Kabel BW has rolled out on-demand television services based on video back office software and systems integration from eventIS, a subsidiary of global video software company SeaChange International. The new service, known as ‘Videothek’, went live to 2.3 million Kabel BW subscribers across south-west Germany in December 2010, offering hundreds of films and television series on-demand. As systems integrator on Kabel BW’s video on demand (VOD) service, eventIS was responsible for system testing, launch support and integration with set-tops, applications, middleware and network components from third-party suppliers. ‘The launch of our ‘Kabel BW Videothek’ demonstrates the innovational power of the established cable network standards and the top performance of our interactive platform,’ stated Stefan Beberweil, head of product management at Kabel BW, adding: ‘Our customers can simply enjoy [the service] with easy-to-use software and not have to worry about complicated technology.’ Videothek is also supplied with local independent content from On Demand Deutschland, a joint venture between SeaChange International’s On Demand Group and Tele Munchen Gruppe.
