Armenian cellco VivaCell-MTS yesterday announced the launch of a pilot Wi-Fi Hotspot service across four key zones in the capital Yerevan. PanARMENIAN.Net reports that in the trial phase, users with a Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or other wireless internet-capable device (i.e. a smartphone or Wi-Fi enabled mobile handset), will be given free and unrestricted access to the internet within the cellco’s Wi-Fi Hotspot areas, namely: the Armenian State Economic University, the Armenian Pedagogical University, areas adjacent to the Opera House, and the environs of the Armenian Public Library. Users can connect to free wireless access for two months, the cellco said. The Wide Area Networks (WANs) are reportedly based on HSPA 3G/3.5G networks, with its base stations supporting both 802.11b and 802.11g standards.
