State-owned Indian telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is preparing to launch a tender for a nationwide rollout of ADSL2+ technology with a view to reducing the load on its existing fixed line broadband infrastructure. According to Telecomyatra, citing Anil Jain, BSNL’s deputy director general for broadband services, the telco’s network is currently running at 70% capacity in urban areas and around 40% in rural regions. The tender is expected to be launched on 2 November, but no details regarding likely value or bidding restrictions have been revealed.
