Softbank Mobile said strong sales of Apple’s new iPhone 4 and iPad tablet PC helped boost subscriber uptake in June, as the cellco recorded 229,500 net new additions to top its rivals for the third month in succession. Softbank, which is the exclusive service provider for Apple products in Japan, debuted the latest iteration of the smartphone on 24 June. Softbank pushed NTT DoCoMo into second spot, in terms of net additions, with an increase of 164,600 subscribers. eMobile, part of the eAccess group, ranked third with 71,500 net new users, KDDI Corp was fourth with 61,300.
