Filipino mobile operator Globe Telecom has launched pilot trials of Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless technology in partnership with its parent company, SingTel. Over a period of six to nine months the pair intend to gauge the best approach and strategy to deploy LTE in the local market. Japan’s NEC is also participating in the trial. Last month the Japanese vendor and SingTel announced plans for operational field trials of LTE at SingTel group subsidiaries in Indonesia, Australia and the Philippines.
