Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) is allocating PHP16.4 billion (USD361.7 million) for mobile arm Smart Communication’s 2010 CAPEX programme, and a further PHP1.4 billion for its other wireless units. Moreover, the Filipino telco intends to invest PHP10.8 billion in its own networks and services this year to help it to continue the expansion and upgrade of its network infrastructure. In a statement the group said: ‘We expect to make additional investments in our core facilities to maximise existing technologies and increase capacity to accommodate expected continued increases in call volumes as a result of unlimited voice offerings and other promotions.’
