Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc, trading as Sun Cellular, added a net one million new cellular subscribers for a year-end total of eleven million, and rolled out over a thousand cell sites in 2009. Digitel vice chairman James Go said last May that he expected to hit the 15 million subscriber mark by the end of 2009. Nonetheless the cellco did report it had built more than 5,000 cell sites in the country, up from 4,603 in May 2009. Going forward the company intends to continue its network rollout programme as it looks to put its infrastructure on a par with the Philippines two leading telecommunications companies. Digitel reported net income of PHP715.4 million (USD15.4 million) for its wireless communication services in the first nine months of last year, a turnaround from a loss of PHP1.7 billion year-on-year.
