Agentel threatens to cancel WiMAX licences

17 Nov 2009

Montenegro’s Agency for Electronic Communications & Post (Agentel) has said that from mid-December it will begin the process of cancelling the WiMAX licences awarded to Promonte, Broadband Montenegro and Crnogorski Telekom for failing to launch commercial services. ‘The Agency shall, ex officio, initiate the procedure for withdrawal of licenses,’ said a statement from the regulator. Wireless network operator M-Tel is the only company with a WiMAX licence to have launched WiMAX services in Montenegro. On its website on 21 October 2009, Agentel posted a new tender for the use of nationwide frequencies in the 3400MHz to 3600MHz range, intended for fixed wireless access (FWA) including WiMAX-based broadband services.
