Kazakhstan’s second largest mobile operator by subscribers, KaR-Tel has announced that it has received permission from the Agency on Information and Communications (AIC) to deploy trial Long Term Evolution networks in Astana and Almaty, Telecompaper reports. KaR-Tel, which operates under parent company Vimpelcom’s ‘Beeline’ brand, said that the test networks will also stand as a trial of the 4G standard for other Vimpelcom operations prior to its rollout of the technology in Russia and across the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, KaR-Tel is 75% owned by Vimpelcom, which also has operations in five other countries across the CIS.
