Japan’s leading mobile operator by subscribers, NTT DoCoMo is reportedly considering a move to launch its brand on the US market as a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). If the company does launch services across the Pacific it is believed that it would seek a wholesale agreement to operate across the networks of either AT&T or T-Mobile USA, both of which have previous ties to the cellco. NTT DoCoMo currently provides limited services in the US for Japanese expatriates. The firm is believed to be developing a plan to launch next generation services in the market, offering smart phones and other high-performance handsets featuring its ‘i-mode’ mobile internet service.
