Venezuelan regulator Conatel has reported that the country ended June 2009 with 27.9 million mobile phone subscriptions, 6.6 million fixed voice lines in service and 1.5 million fixed broadband internet subscribers. Going by the watchdog’s figures, total active mobile SIMs increased by 8% year-on-year to take cellular penetration above the 100% mark, whilst fixed telephony growth was 18% in the year to take teledensity to 24% at mid-2009. Venezuela’s internet subscriber base grew 42.3% in twelve months to 1.6 million at the end of 2Q09, with broadband subscribers accounting for 90.8% of the total.
