Cosmofon launches 3G mobile TV service

18 Aug 2009

Cosmofon, the Macedonian mobile operator now owned by Telekom Slovenije, has launched a mobile TV service under the banner ‘Live TV’ on its 3G network. At launch the new service is offering a number of TV channels such as A1 TV, Sitel TV, Kanal 5 TV and Era TV. People wishing to sign up for the service can access it via Cosmofon’s mobile portal at wap.planet.mk.

In May this year, Telekom Slovenije promised to invest EUR30 million (USD41.6 million) in its new Cosmofon subsidiary. At the time the telco, which acquired the Macedonian cellco earlier that month, said it intended to spend the money on implementing mobile digital video broadcasting services. Cosmofon is the second largest mobile operator in the country, claiming a 35% share of the market at the end of March 2009, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database.
