Denmark plans LTE/WiMAX spectrum auction

Denmark’s Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation has launched a public consultation on the auction of spectrum in the 2.5GHz frequency bands suitable for providing wireless broadband services based on LTE and WiMAX, according to the country’s National IT and Telecom Agency (Telestyrelsen). The regulator has said that 205MHz of spectrum will be auctioned in total: 190MHz in the 2.5GHz band (2500-2690MHz) and 15MHz in the 2010MHz band (2010-2025MHz). The licences granted to the successful bidders will allow them to deploy their own choice of technology and offer any type of service. The ministry hopes the auction will help stimulate competition and enable the winning companies to offer advanced and innovative services. The auction is slated for the first quarter of 2010 and will be conducted electronically, with participants submitting their bids via the internet.
