Indian cellco Aircel has announced that it has launched services in the Delhi telecoms circle, the Business Standard reports, taking its coverage to 13 circles. The operator announced that it expects to expand its coverage to 18 circles within the next few days. The operator expects to offer nationwide coverage within 24 months and hopes to increase its subscriber base to 30 million by the end of 2009. To aid the expansion Malaysia’s Maxis Communications, which owns a 74% stake in the wireless operator, has revealed it has set aside USD10 billion for network developments, and said it had spent USD5 billion of this so far. The funds however do not include what the company may spend on 3G spectrum, whenever that becomes available. Sandip Das, CEO of Maxis, noted, ‘Irrespective of whether bid prices rise or fall, serious players will keep pursuing, but at the current reserve price we still have an appetite.’
