Mumbia-based cellco BPL Mobile has announced that it has changed its name to Loop Mobile (India) Limited. The company said that the move continued its plans to rebrand that began in 2007, with Sanjeev Chachondia, Loop’s CEO, saying, ‘We made a conscious decision to reposition ourselves with the ‘get in the loop’ brand refresh campaign, a roadmap that began in July 2007. The name change to Loop Mobile was the next step in this journey.’ The company’s subsidiary, Loop Telecom, will continue to operate as a separate legal entity.
Alongside the name change the operator revealed that it had completed its network expansion project, and has subsequently doubled the capacity of its infrastructure. It has spent approximately INR3 billion (USD57.5 million) on the expansion and has deployed next generation Internet Protocol and EDGE technologies. The cellco claims that the upgrades will also allow it to offer new value added services.
