P1 begins WiMAX in Penang, 70% coverage of the state expected in 18 months

The first set of trial locations for Packet One’s (P1’s) Wireless@Penang have begun service, The Edge Daily reports. Following the launch Penang’s Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, announced that the service would be rolled out across additional locations over the next six months. Approximately 70% of Penang Island and Seberang Perai are expected to have WiMAX coverage within the next 18 months. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, P1 currently offers commercial WiMAX services in the Klang Valley and Johor Baru.
