Telecom Tiger is reporting that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has finally agreed to proposals by the finance ministry to increase the base price for the upcoming 3G and WiMAX auctions. However, it is understood that the DoT will not recommend a doubling of the price, as the ministry had requested. The regulator is believed to have submitted a proposal to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) which would see the base price for 3G spectrum raised to INR34.5 billion (USD697.9 million). It has recommended spectrum in Mumbai, Delhi and category A circles be doubled from INR1.6 billion to INR3.2 billion, while category B circles would increase to INR1.2 billion from INR800 million. Category C circles would retain their original base price of INR400 million.
