TTSL targets one million subscribers in Orissa by mid-2009

Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) is aiming to increase its subscriber base in Orissa from the existing figure of 550,000 to one million by June 2009, India’s Business Standard is reporting. TTSL’s circle operating officer, Biswajit Bhhatacharya, also noted, ‘Out of our overall subscriber base of 550,000 customers in the state, about 60% are rural subscribers and the share of rural customers is expected to reach 80% by the end of March 2009.’ The operator has announced that, in order to reach its goal, it will expand its presence from 272 towns in the state to 300 by the end of 2008, whilst also extending its coverage to all 30 districts in the region by the end of March 2009; it currently covers 23 districts.
