Idea Cellular has launched commercial GSM-based services in the states of Bihar and Jharkand, Telecom Tiger is reporting; the launch makes Idea the fifth operator to offer services in the regions, following Bharti Airtel, Aircel, BSNL and Reliance Communications (RCOM). Idea will cover 15 million people in the two areas across 2,500 villages and towns, and has reportedly installed approximately 800 towers in order to meet this target; it is understood that the operator will look to expand this to 60 million people covered across 16,500 towns and villages by the end of the March 2009. Following the launch Idea now offers service in 15 of the country’s 22 telecom circles.
