KDDI, Rostelecom launch high speed cable links

8 Sep 2008

KDDI of Japan and Russian long-distance telecoms operator Rostelecom on Saturday launched two high speed fibre-optic cables connecting their two countries, Jiji Press reports. The new cables connect Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture, central Japan, and Nakhodka in Russia’s Far East. The submarine cables will be linked to European cable networks via existing lines of the Russian partner. KDDI hopes the initiative will help it meet growing demand for data communications services and cut transmission times between Japan and Europe.
