New Zealand’s Communications Minister David Cunliffe is intervening in a dispute between the country’s two incumbent mobile operators and NZ Communications in an attempt to speed up the launch of the country’s third mobile network. Cunliffe has brokered talks between representatives of Vodafone, Telecom New Zealand and NZ Communications in the hope of reaching a deal which will enable the newcomer to use mobile masts belonging to the two existing players. ‘I have called in NZ Communications, Vodafone and Telecom to discuss these issues and I expect a further report from them on removing any remaining obstacles from the third network rollout,’ local newspaper The Dominion Post quotes him as saying.
