MTNL reports net profit up despite revenues stalling

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL), the sister company of fellow state-run fixed line incumbent Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), has posted a 15% rise in net profit to INR1.15 billion (USD27 million) for the first quarter ended 30 June 2008. Revenues for remained largely flat however, climbing less than 1% to INR12.88 billion (USD301 million), despite it adding almost 200,000 mobile and 13,000 broadband subscribers in the period.
