Indian newspaper The Economic Daily is reporting that AT&T is close to buying Malaysia’s Maxis Communications’ 74% stake in Indian mobile operator Aircel. AT&T is believed to have valued Aircel at between USD5-USD6 billion, the newspaper said. A spokesperson for Maxis, however, has denied that a deal is on the cards saying: ‘We are not aware of any discussions with AT&T about this matter. Maxis Communications and its partners remain committed to the accelerated growth and development of Aircel to be a successful Pan-Indian operator.’
