Anatel to increase fixed telephony rates by 4.46%

17 Jun 2008

Brazil’s telecoms regulator Anatel says it is looking to increase fixed telephony tariffs by 4.46% from 1 July 2008, reports BNamericas citing a statement from the watchdog. The price hike is based on the IST, a sector-specific index to define annual tariffs in telephony, the online portal writes. Anatel concludes that the accumulated IST for the past year was 4.46%, while the price variation in May alone was 0.75%, compared to April’s rate of 0.47%. The watchdog is blaming the increase on overall high inflation affecting the country.
