Kabel BW and Unitymedia ‘may merge’

27 Feb 2008

A snippet in Financial Times Deutschland reveals that EQT, the Swedish investment fund, is looking to merge two of Germany’s largest cablecos, Kabel Baden-Wurttemberg and Unitymedia, though it sees potential regulatory hurdles for the deal. Unitymedia’s current owner, BC Partners, is looking to withdraw from the company before the end of the year. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, the two operators’ cable networks serve a total of eleven million German homes, and at the end of 2007 they had over 550,000 broadband customers between them.
