Fibre-optic networks to be joined

21 Feb 2008

Venezuela’s national IT institute CNTI has quoted CANTV president and telecommunications minister Socorro Hernandez as saying that the country’s fibre-optic network will reach 14,000km by 2010 after the interconnection of the telco with other state companies. BNamericas reports that the plans include the interconnection of CANTV’s existing 7,400km network with another 7,000km system owned by state oil company PDVSA and power utilities Cadafe and EDC. Hernandez also said that capital expenditure at CANTV is expected to reach USD1 billion for 2008.
