FT to drop fixed line call charges from 17 January

16 Jan 2008

French incumbent France Telecom (FT) has announced it is dropping its charges for fixed line calls from 17 January 2008, benefiting all its private customers on the mainland and in overseas French territories (DOM). In a statement, the firm said it will further reduce the per-minute general call rates to fixed lines and mobiles, cutting at least 9% off the cost of a long-distance fixed line call in France; more than 11% off the cost of a fixed line call to a landline in the DOM; and a minimum 5% off mobile rates in mainland France and the overseas territories.

FT says its planned cost reductions will also extend to include Optimales customers. Launched in June 2006, Optimales’ offers, which typically include telephone subscription plus voice calls, SMS and other services, have already attracted nearly 1.5 million customers. As of 17 January 2008 Optimales customers will also benefit from a reduction in the per-minute rate from fixed lines to all mainland mobile operators, FT said.
