Belarus’ national PTO Beltelecom is teaming up with Russia’s Synterra to build a fibre-optic link across the Belarusian-Russian border between Vitebsk and Velizh. Each of the parties will be responsible for building its own section of the network up to the border. Once completed, the commercial launch is expected in 2Q 2008, the new link will offer data transmission rates of 2.5Gbps with an option to expand this to 10Gbps.
