Huawei wins Polish 3G contract

20 Sep 2007

Chinese vendor Huawei has revealed that it has been awarded a contract by cellco PTK Centertel (Orange Poland) to supply a UMTS/HSPA network. The work will take three years and will see all Poland’s major cities connected. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Orange Poland had just over 13 million subscribers at the end of June 2007, of whom 131,000 took 3G services. The cellco is neck and neck with Polkomtel and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC) in the fight for market share, each taking around a third. Fourth operator P4 launched earlier this year offering 3G services, but has yet to establish itself.
