Brazilian mobile operator Telemig Celular hopes to introduce a 3G service in state capital Belo Horizonte by the end of the year, the company said in a statement. The company, which is in the throes of a BRL1.2 billion (USD644 million) takeover by Vivo, expects to launch W-CDMA technology in central and southern parts of Belo Horizonte, reports BNamericas citing Telemig’s director of engineering, Paulo Amador. The company is investing BRL250 million in the new technology, and has been conducting in-house pilots to test the technology since May. It estimates around 200,000 people will be interested in taking the service at launch. Ericsson is providing Telemig with W-CDMA core and radio networks including the first HSPA-enabled network in Brazil.
