SHD, a joint venture between French mobile operator SFR and fixed line services provider neuf Cegetel, has awarded Alcatel-Lucent a two-year contract to deploy a WiMAX network in France. Under the deal, Alcatel-Lucent plans to deploy a WiMAX network in the Paris and Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur (PACA) regions of the country by mid-2009. AFX News reports that a pilot trial is already under way in Paris with the PACA networks set to be rolled out this summer.
