Canadian cableco Vidéotron revealed yesterday that it aims to build its own mobile network if it can secure the necessary wireless spectrum when the government holds an auction later this year. The planned network will serve customers in the province of Quebec, offering multimedia mobile services, it said. ‘We want to build our wireless business aggressively…and we want to make our wireless product a compelling choice for our customers,’ CEO Robert Depatie said in a speech at the Canadian Telecom Summit. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Vidéotron began reselling mobile services in Quebec over Rogers’ GSM network in August 2006.
