Ice Broadband, a newcomer to Ireland’s high speed wireless internet market, is promising to deliver 100% broadband coverage by the end of this year, writes the Sunday Business Post quoting the operator’s backer, dot.com entrepreneur Fran Rooney. Ice is utilising mesh wireless technology supplied by Motorola to provide ubiquitous access in the Republic, with CEO Yvonne Rooney promising: ‘We’ll charge the same price everywhere in the country and we’ll cover everywhere, including the remotest rural areas’. Ireland languishes well down in most league tables for broadband penetration (23rd in a recent OECD table), and recent data from ComReg shows that nearly half of all Irish businesses still struggle to find any form of broadband access in their area.
