US cableco Time Warner Cable has announced the addition of a new cellular service to its telecoms portfolio, which will be marketed under the banner Pivot, and says it hopes the new service will build on the success of its landline phone service in San Antonio. Pivot, which is being offered in partnership with cellular operator Sprint Nextel, allows Time Warner customers to check their e-mail accounts and watch TV programmes via their wireless handsets. It also allows them to set up a single voicemail box for their cellular phones and their Time Warner home phone and to make free calls between both. Pivot will be available to all Time Warner customers in the San Antonio area. The Connecticut-based cableco has around 360,000 video customers, about a third of whom also subscribe to its home phone service.
