23 Apr 2007

Indonesian telecoms operator PT Indosat has announced the launch of a 3.5G mobile broadband service in Batam, initially offering connection speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. According to reports from Antara news, Indosat, which offers mobile services through its Satelindo unit, plans to offer a 50% discount for users signing up to the service until July 2007. People registering in the promotional period will receive ten minutes of free video and mobile TV calls and a discount of 50% on standard local and long-distance voice calls to other Indosat users. The company’s marketing director Wahyu Wijayadi said the 3.5G service will focus on providing broadband internet data access to users. He added that the company was initially offering light and medium-use packages with a download capacity of 1GB and 2.5GB respectively. ‘These packages could be adapted to the subscribers’ need,’ he said.
